Glover Gill returns to the Continental club tonight after his
break, 8-9pm, free.  Afterwards, Toe to Toe kicks off their
Rooftop Milonga at Prive, 910 Westheimer.

Prof. Julie Taylor sends in this announcement of a lecture in honor
of the great Argentine writer and cultural icon, Jorge Luis Borges.
Borges had various connections to Tango, and also visited Texas
at various times during his life.

MARIA KODAMA

Wife and collaborator of the late Argentine writer Jorge Luis
Borges, she is the Founder and President of the "Jorge Luis Borges
International Foundation".   Maria Kodama is a graduate from
the Faculty of Philosophy of the National University of Buenos
Aires. She translated in cooperation with Jorge Luis Borges two
books from Icelandic to Spanish: Brief Anthology of Anglo-Saxon
and Gylfi's Hallucination, as well as works by Angel Sibelius
and Sei Shonogan.  Kodama has done special studies on short story
writer Horacio Quiroga's works and Alberto Girri's poems. She also
has done research on Gengi's Story and Tetralogy, by Yukio Mishima.

Ms. Kodama has lectured extensively throughout Europe, the United
States, Central and South America, India and Argentina.

During two years she directed Summer Courses at the Universidad
Complutense de Madrid and in 1999 was in charge of  Summer Courses
at the Universidad de Santander.

Mrs. Kodama has received numerous awards, among them: Alicia Moreau
de Justo Award (1988); the Golden Lion Award, granted by the Lion's
Club (1990); the Buenos Aires Eagle and the Cristopher Columbus
Foundation awards (1993); she also received the Machado de Asis
Medallion granted by the Brazilian Academy of Literature (1997)
and Chevalier des Arts et Lettres from the Government of France.


HORACIO SALAS

Historian, poet, essay writer and author of more that 30 books,
four of which were published during his stay in Spain, from 1976
to 1983.  Between 1966 and 2003 he authored six books of poems,
six essays -including a biography on Jorge Luis Borges- and several
other publications. His works have been translated to thirteen
languages and in 1996 the Patiño Editorial House published his
Poésie Argentine du XXe. Siecle in French and Spanish.

Mr. Salas has also worked in journalism and given lectures and
courses at over 20 universities en Europe, and the Americas.

He was awarded the Chevalier des Arts et Lettres by the Government
of France and was declared Illustrious Citizen of the City of
Buenos Aires.

Mr. Salas is former Secretary of Culture of the City of Buenos
Aires and is member of  the Argentine Academy of History  and
The National Academy of Tango .

He is currently Director of  Argentina's National Library and of
the Argentine National Foundation for the Arts.
