Laura Pellegrino writes:
Hey everybody,
Wanted to drop a short note to all of you guys in both
Austin and Houston who came out and took part in the
M&M workshops! I, personally, was really pleased with
the turn-out! To those of you who drove several hours
to take BOTH workshops, kudos to you!!
In particular I would like to thank Monica for providing
the space for the Austin workshops as well as for taking
on the Friday night milonga in Austin. Thank you Georgia,
Boris and the UT Tango club for the Sat. night milonga,
Sheila for allowing M&M to use her living room to teach
private lessons, and Tom for all the various, random
behind-the-scenes tasks that we needed to get done,
(not the least of which was serving as the Grill Master
at our closing milonga!!!)
In Houston, thank you to the Te-House crowd for allowing
M&M to showcase on Friday night, TangoHous for hosting
the Sat. night milonga, Mercy as DJ, Diana for setting up
the milonga, Andrew for the fliers and lastly Mikas for
promotion, sound system, providing a place for private
lessons and above all, serving as overall morale booster!
I hope everybody had a great time!
Laura
P.S. Please note, I will be in Buenos Aires from May
31st-June 22nd. so there will be no classes in either
city for the first 3 weeks of June. However, upon my
return, Javier Antar will be spending 3 weeks with us in
Texas. Austin workshop is to take place over the 28th,
29th of June and Houston will be over the 4th of July
weekend. I will have more details as we get closer. Stay
tuned to your email! Beso grande!!!
----------------
Hey guys,
I'm sorry this is coming so quickly on the heels of this
weekend but I'm trying to get a better handle on attendance
ahead of this coming workshop. As most of you know, my
friend Javier Antar will be joining us in Texas for an
extended stay. The Austin workshop will be June 28th and
29th. The following weekend we will be in Houston which
is July 5th 6th. I am not AS concerned with the Austin
workshop as I am with the Houston one as it falls on
the 4th of July weekend and the venue in Houston can be
pricey over a holiday. IF YOU ARE REASONABLY CONFIDENT
YOU WILL BE IN ATTENDANCE, PRETTY PLEASE, I'D LOVE TO
KNOW!! I would like to avoid paying a high price for a
large room and security (city requirement) if many folks
are cutting out for the holiday weekend. On the other
hand, I hate to see a ton of folks crammed into a small
sweltering dance studio. Lemme know!!
Whatever you know, I'd love to know..ya know?
Thanks,
Laura
P.S. The days, times, and pricing will be the same as
this past weekend. We haven't yet finalized the class
descriptions but I will let you know as soon as they
are on the site. If you would like a sneak peak at
Javier you can go to his website for some videos:

Dallas Road Trip this weekend
Marta and Manolo, organizers for CAMICANDO (canyengus,
milonga, candombe) in Buenos Aires will be in Dallas May
27-June 3 for a weekend workshop. With over 50 years of
dancing, these tango legends ... real treasures in the
tango world, they have seen tango evolve. They dance
the older styles of tango, the sweetly romantic 1950's
salon style before the Argentine government prohibited
tango and the precursors such as milonga, candombeada,
and canyengue as well. On Friday night after a class,
there will be a practica, Saturday milonga with Steve
Brown as d.j. and a Sunday milonga the beautiful Plaza
Arts Center that looks like Nino Bien in Buenos Aires.
Please go to http://www.nocturnatango.com/, and view
the flyer. The reception on Tuesday will be at Excuses,
3025 Main St.
Oyeye Yumba!

Three Classics, Five Tangos - Houston Ballet, May 22 - June 1
Three prolific and internationally acclaimed choreographers
present their own interpretations of the classical
idiom. Stanton Welch's Falling is danced by five couples

will feature costumes by the Canadian designer Denis
Lavoie. Completing the program is Hans van Manen's Five
Tangos, a unique mix of the power and sensuality of tango
and the cool abstraction of classical ballet.
