The 2nd Annual Houston Tango Festival is now history,
and things are returning to our normally scheduled events.

Laura Pelligrino has decided to curtail her Houston classes
to concentrate on building the Austin tango community.
Her last classes will be February 9. Full details below...

        ----------------

        Hey guys,

As many of you know, I've recently decided to curtail my
Houston activities. I've decided the travel is just getting
to be too much over the long haul. The 2 days a week I'm
away from Austin is killing me. And I've recently decided
I want to really focus on growing Austin's community. So
I've decided to not carry on with my group classes in
Houston. I am, however, planning on still making it
to town either every other week on either a Sat. or
Sun. (or as often as there is need) to give private
lessons. My last group class will be on Monday the 9th of
Feb. and until that date, my schedule remains the same,
I'm there Sundays for privates and Monday. Beyond that,
I'll have to reconfigure somewhat. So for those of you
who are already in the private lesson rotation, let me
know if you are still "in" beyond the 9th. And for those
of you who have recently been enquiring about privates,
let me know how soon you are looking to start so I can
        get you on the calendar.

For the record: Privates are $70/ hour, $80/ for 2 (as
long as BOTH are actually taking the lesson and not just
accompanying the other). I hope you all had a great time
at the festival. I did, though I am burnt as I know most
        of you all are.

        Please let me know,
           Abrazo,
            Laura

        Dear Friends,

We want to thank everyone in the Houston tango
community for supporting the Houston Tango Festival last
weekend. Thank you for coming, dancing and learning. Thank
you for opening your homes to out-of-towners, dancing until
5 a.m., and welcoming guests from around the world. Most
importantly, thank you for your love of tango which made
        Houston's festival possible at all.

We would like to especially acknowledge the Houston
area teachers and organizers who supported the festival,
encouraged their students to show up and whose everyday
work opens the door to tango for so many. Without you,
the festival would not have been possible.

We would like also to acknowledge that we follow in the
path of those who came before us. Thank you for your hard
work and laying the foundation for future generations.

Finally, we want to thank all the volunteers and local
hosts. The festival was successful because of your
        big hearts.

We hope to see all of you back for the third annual Houston
Tango Festival in January of 2010! Details to follow.

        One love,
        Mikas Kalinauskas

AS A MATTER OF INFORMATION TO ALL NEW TANGUEROS, NEW
        TEACHERS AND NEW TANGO DANCERS

        by Orlando Budini

According to the news, the "Second Tango Festival of
Houston" is in motion and I' m very happy for El Tango,
for the new tangueros, for the new teachers and for the
new dancers of this wonderful and inspirational dance
that has been an important part of my life during the
last 40 years. This may be the second festival organized
for this particular group but not necessarily THE SECOND
IN HOUSTON. For those who do not know and for those who
do not remember "THE FIRST TANGO FESTIVAL IN HOUSTON"
was organized with the participation of the best-ever
tango dancer and teacher, Juan Carlos Copes, brought
directly from Buenos Aires, the capital of el tango, and
it took place in the year 2002 with the rare addition in
festivals of a Live Tango Orchestra for the milongas.

"THE SECOND TANGO FESTIVAL IN HOUSTON" took place in 2004
and was organized with the participation of world-renowned
teachers and dancers Milena Plebs and Ezequiel Farfaro,
Jorge Firpo and Aurora Lubiz from Buenos Aires, and
myself at the local level. We also presented a live tango
orchestra for the milongas, and had the privilege to be
asked by the City of Buenos Aires to select a couple of
dancers to represent Texas at the "International Tango
Festival" to be held in BA.

I was myself the producer and director of these first
two tango festivals in Houston and Texas and I sincerely
congratulate Houston and wish these guys a lot a luck
because I know how much hard work and love for tango is
required to do this, specially when after all this hard
work and love you are not even remembered as the first one.
