Greetings tango friends!
To better accommodate beginner dancers, the Sunday beginner
lesson will now start at 3:30 PM instead of 4:00 PM and
last 45 minutes instead of 30 minutes. The lesson will
end at 4:15 PM. The price remains unchanged - $5.
La práctica dominguera will still start at 4:30 PM as usual.

The Maestro is back!
Pampa returned to the Houston area yesterday happy to be
back and ready to go. His travels to Guatemala, Argentina,
and California were fruitful.
Pampa's cellphone is (713) 894-9435 if you need to
book your lessons with him while he's in town. He'll be
traveling to Massachusetts at the end of this month and
will be in San Francisco in November.
In addition, Mr. Cortes has formally accepted the position
as Artistic Director & Artist in Residence for Tango &
More 2009-2012 in San Francisco. You can expect some
changes in his programming to accommodate his new position.

Argentine Tango Beginner Level II
This class is offered for people to extend the
understanding of social tango dancing. Become more
comfortable executing the moves with your partner along
with the Music. Learn to smoothly maneuver through a
crowded dance floor, while enjoying your connection.
If you have knowledge of basic steps in tango, such as
weight changes, walking in parallel and cross systems,
and basic turns, you are welcomed to join this class.
Curriculum :
week 1 - Qualities of steps (diferent ways of walking) ,
week 2 - Combining steps based on phrases in the music.
week 3 - Pivoting, curled up Ochos.
week 4 - Grapevine (Molinettes).
week 5 - Embrace** diversity, connection.
As class will be held in the private space, group size
is limited. Pre-registration required. Class fluidity
will depend on regular attendance. No Drop-ins.
Starting Oct 20th- Nov 17th, 5 Tuesdays in a row.
Prices - $60 for the cycle, Students pay $40.
Time: 7.30 -9.00pm

Note- For maximum benefit from the classes, Level II & III
students are encouraged to attend the class before in order
to warm-up and feel comfortable with the class structure.
Instructor Bios:
Elizabeth Olivera
Elizabeth Olivera has been dancing and teaching tango
since 2000 in her hometown of Buenos Aires and around the
world. She has danced in numerous shows and exhibitions
in Argentina, including "Madero Tango" en Puerto Madero,
"Bar Sur" in San Telmo, "Taconeando" and "La Ventana"
at the famous Casa de Tango.
Elizabeth is the founding partner, artistic director
and choreographer of the E.O.P. Tango Company, based in
Buenos Aires. She is also the co-director and instructor
of the Argentine tango school, 2 Para el Tango, at which
some of the best known dancers and teachers in tango hold
classes. For four years she served as an Assistant teacher
at the International Tango Congress (CITA) in Buenos Aires.
From the many great Argentinean teachers with whom she
has formally studied, Elizabeth has developed a teaching
style that focuses on creating an understanding of the
aesthetics, body dynamics and discipline that support
the dancing of tango.
Mariano Gauna
Mariano Gauna began his career in dance when he was a
child, studying Argentine folk dance, modern dance,
and specially tango. Since 1996, he has been giving
independent performances as well as participating with
several dance companies in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and
danced in the most popular tango houses and shows in BA.
He has also been invited to participate in several dance
companies to perform in several tango shows in Europe, Asia
and Latin America. His tango dancing style emphasizes in a
strong technique, a firm and clear embrace, elegance and
sensuality, without losing the essence of the expression
of the Argentinean Tango.

transformation- the wave curls and breaks, the pebble
dropped in a pool spreads a concentric pattern, the
tree adds another ring. Such is life. Very similar to
tango. In tango couples are turning all the time: in a
big circle around the room in the line of dance, woman
around the man, man around the woman.
Come and learn the Tango through turning. Learn 5 basic
turns for social dance floor. 5 Mondays in a row.

Mauro Gonzalez has begun a semester long class at the
Univ of Houston Campus Recreation and Wellness Center.
Tuesdays, Aug 25 to early December, 7-8pm. Non-CRWC
members can purchase a single-entry pass for $7, which
entitles them to use all the other facilities (swimming,
aerobics, rock climbing, etc.) as well as take the class.
To participate in the class you need to sign-up at the
Group Fitness station of the Welcome Desk. They will
give out cards for you to enter the room. Arrive early
to handle this paperwork before class starts.

Indre will introduce you to Argentine Tango fundamentals
for social dancing (Milonga). 7:30pm-9:00pm, Sept. 16 -
Oct. 14, at the Rice Graduate Student Appartments (1515
Bissonnet St.) You can drive, OR take the Rice Graduate
Apartment shuttle (3 min. - super easy) from campus.
The class cycle consists of 5 classes. Each class is
90 minutes long, including a 15 min. practice at the
beginning and 15 min. dancing at the end. We will focus on
connection between partners, the tango walk as a couple,
navigation on the dance floor, as well as the man and
woman's role in tango. You will learn the steps based
on connection that you can do with anyone on any tango
social dance floor.
You are welcome as a complete beginner, or if you want to
polish / remember what you've learned in the past, or if
you want to come by and help beginners to learn faster .
