[HouTango-L] Tango This Week (6/27/11)

A. Lester Buck III buck at compact.com
Fri Jul 1 20:37:11 UTC 2011

Houston's great Summer of Workshops finishes up with
Michael McCarrel in town for the next month(!), with
added classes on Fridays. With Milonga Brasileña on
Saturday and Helios Stars and Stripes Milonga on Sunday,
we have a full weekend of dance.

        ----------------

        Soon To Be Another Dream

Each moment presents so many possibilities in life...

Mike and Sabra believe that Tango stays alive today for
an important reason. The real connection to what is inside
of two people communicated through the dance is the jewel
of of the dance not a set of steps or a fantasy. Deep
awareness, strength, trust, and surrender are required
to discover this state of oneness, and it is worth it!

Mike and Sabra share a wealth of knowledge, both coming
from a long history of experience and education in dance
and other movement arts. Mike is known for being a clear
and precise teacher helping his students to develop their
vocabulary quickly and with strong connection to the floor,
his partner, and the music. He is a driving force on the
dance floor who expresses melody like no other. Sabra
is known for her deep understanding of body and energy
mechanics and stresses strong technique from the beginning
in order to more fully develop each person's individual
style. Her dance is often described as inspirational,
sometimes as fun and/or funny, and always as strong,
        sensitive, and deeply connected.

Join these instructors in class this July to develop
Your Tango. Please inquire for appropriate level
information. It is recommended that most students take the
Beginner Course to go over the fundamental technique that
Mike and Sabra teach to get the most from other classes.

Update: Mike and Sabra will now be teaching intermediate
and advanced classes on Fridays. Please Check
Sabratango.com for all details. Class information can
also be found on the Houston Tango main page.

This coming Saturday, July 2, we will have a milonga at
        EMPORIO BRAZILIAN CAFE <http://www.milongabrasilena.net/>.
Tony and Marcos, as always try their best to make us
comfortable and allow us to dance at this wonderful family
restaurant. If the Houston heat has you beat, come to
the Cafe to have a cool salad and dance with your friends.
Ask about the new desert. It is a passion fruit parfait.
It is not yet (as of this writing) on the menu. I was a
test pilot for this treat last month. It is a Passion
fruit pudding (mousse) under and over a cookie pastry.
I have yet another favorite dessert. Come to Emporio
to dine. Come to Emporio to dance.

Adriano Quintana will handle the music this Saturday.
Adriano always tries to make us dance with his inspired
tango choices. For me, he has always succeeded. I hope
you too enjoy his milongas. I need to thank Arturo Rappi
for his wonderful tango music at D'AMICO DANCE studio
this last week. Thank you, Arturo for your expertise
with the music. I look forward to your next DJ duties.

Come to Emporio to dine. Come to Emporio to dance or
just listen to the divine tango music.

more powerful," says Agnes De Mille.

Here is a big bowl of tango passion mixed in with a cozy
light of a star or a moon, a dash of a caressing breeze,
a splash of a wave, a sprinkle of sand, a cool shade of
a tree, and a touch of a sunset:
