Milonga Brasileña - Saturday, September 1, 9pm - midnight
Our special DJ for this Saturdays milonga is Alex
Mamontoff. I had the pleasure to hear a wonderful
milonga DJ'd by Alex about 7 or 8 years ago. He was
spinning CDs and also dancing and socializing. He is
even busier these days. Alex and Sue teach tango and
host an excellent practica on Sundays at the River Oaks
Pilates studio. "El Ruso" is my favorite tanguero for
technique and judgment. I continue to hold Sue and Alex
up as great examples to all beginning and experienced
dancers . For more information about Alex and Sue,
use this link to Tango Houston
http://tangoinhouston.wordpress.com/
This last Saturday, Teresa and I had dinner at Emporio.
Dinner was great as always but the _extra special treat_
was the entertainment. John Yeh and Gisele Duque
entertained with special arrangements of Brazilian and
American standards. John is a superb guitarist who
completely complements the song stylings of Gisele.
Samba, Bossa Nova and American Jazz - they do it all
extremely well. Thirty years ago I heard Astrud Gilberto.
Since that first experience with Portuguese-flavored
Jazz, I was hooked. Gisele's songs are in Portuguese
and English. Her mastery of jazz is complete. All she
needs is you, to sing to. Call the restaurant to confirm
their performance schedule.
The milonga will begin at 9 pm. I will start the
music at 7 pm. From 7 until 9, I will play the music
of Brazil. Tony and his staff always keep us cool
during the milonga. If you are prone to being cold,
please bring a wrap or light jacket. As always,
_reservations are encouraged_. I will reserve a table
for 12. It will fill up quickly after 9 pm. The number
for Emporio Brazilian Cafe is 281-293-7442. You might
like to receive Emporio's newsletter of special events.
Email Emporio at <cafe at brazilian-cafe.com> and ask to
receive cafe entertainment email.

Every year Autumn brings a sense of fresh beginnings. Some
coolness in the air, memories of the start of school. Fall
brings new practices, routines and changes. And in
anticipation of that, we are gearing up for a new season
for tango learning. We have two new class cycles coming
up in September, I start teaching an intermediate class

Hey everybody,
After a somewhat drama filled arrival at customs
surrounding my dog Buster, (which I briefly detailed on
FB) all seems to be progressing nicely, or business as
usual Buenos Aires style. Tonight is the last night of the
Tango Mundial and I was fortunate enough to get to catch
the Salon finals last night. A full house packed Luna
Park. A great show, Sexteto Mayor played and everybody
was in rare form!
As most of you probably know I have left the great state
of Texas and have moved back to Buenos Aires. However just
so you're aware, you needn't be worried that you won't
have access to Comme Il Faut shoes! *God Forbid!*Now THAT
would be a tragedy! :) I have left you in good hands: my
good friend Sandy Hilliard in San Antonio and my amazing
mother, Ann, in Houston, whom many of you already know,
are going to be carrying on with the shoe business in my
absence. The best part is that I will be able to hand-pick
all the shoes myself. This means that if you should find
yourself in *terrible need *of some particular shade
or style or what-have you, I should be able to help you
better than ever.
I will continue to be available at BsAsBaby at gmail.com.
If you're going to be in San Antonio and would like to
make an appt. to see shoes, or would like to know when
Sandy is bringing the shoes to Austin, you can email
her at shilliard at satx.rr.com. And for shoes in Houston,
my mom, Ann, can be reached at Annbullock47 at gmail.com.
Additionally you should know that I am also in the
throws of putting together a new business venture here
in Buenos Aires: A full concierge service, catering to
all your Tango needs in Buenos Aires! The website is not
yet finished but I will be sending out an email as soon
as it is. In the meantime, if you plan to be in BA soon,
please shoot me an email. I'd love to give you all the
details on the services I'll be providing!! Just email
me at the old email or the new one
Laura at BuenosAiresTangoConcierge.com
Hope you guys are all good. Its a little...chilly here :)
Abrazo Fuerte,
Laura
