On Friday evening, I happened to catch two public radio stories
that included Argentine tango. Two stories about great cities
that have a tradition of outdoor summer dancing, including
Argentine tango.
1. Summer Nights: Dancing in Chicago
If you want to learn to samba, tango, waltz or get jiggy, all you
have to do is wander into a Chicago park. The city of Chicago
hosts the largest annual outdoor dance series.

2. A Summer Beach With A View Of The Eiffel Tower

Tango music starts at about 3m:28s into the segment.
That is a somewhat tenuous tango connection, except everyone
dancing tango in Houston ten or fifteen years ago remembers
Houston's own inimitable Derik Rawson who would travel to Paris
and regale us with stories about tangoing the night away on the
banks of the Seine. He didn't mention any palm trees or beach,
as that seems to be a more recent summer thing.
Which leads me to the important question...
Why can't Houston have regular public outdoor dancing?
It wouldn't work during the summer, but it would be great in
October or March.
Cheers,
Lester
