7:30 p.m.
Miller Outdoor Theatre

Join the world's greatest tango dancers and musicians
as they bring the art of tango to life. Luis Bravo's
internationally acclaimed Forever Tango will se the Miller
stage on fire.
Luis Bravo’s Forever Tango traces the colorful history
of tango through music, dance and dramatic vignettes,
features an all Argentine cast –14 dancers and a
11-piece orchestra. The 26-member Forever Tango Company
includes world class dancers who utilize their own unique
flourishes, each drawing from the wellspring of cultural
inspiration offering unspoken insight into this mysterious
and passionate art form. The orchestra is led by Victor
Lavallén on the bandoneón, an accordion-like instrument
imported to Argentina from Germany in 1886.
According to creator/director Mr. Bravo,“The tango is
a feeling that you dance; a story that you tell in three
minutes – it is passionate, tender, violent.” He adds,
“The tango represents so much more than just a dance:
it is a music, a culture, a way of life.”
This is a ticketed event for the covered seating area. Free
tickets are available (4 per person over age 16 while they
last) at the Miller Outdoor Theatre box office the day
of the performance between the hours of 10:30am-1pm. If
tickets remain at 1pm, the box office will re-open one hour
before show time to distribute the remaining tickets. As
always, open seating on the hill.

Update on Pampa Cortes' health
Dear Friends,
First and foremost, thank you so much for your support
of Pampa. Your good wishes and prayers have been an
incredible comfort to him in this difficult time.
We're glad to say that he has completed a course of
radiation and received his first chemo treatment on
Tuesday. It's been a real blessing to have such good
medical care. His condition was difficult to define and it
took longer than anyone hoped to arrive to a diagnosis. He
is happy with the course of treatment he has chosen. As
an aside: You are welcome to share any information you
feel may help him but please do that through me so he
can focus on resting. The amount of support and concern
has been almost overwhelming so I can help organize it.
Our email is info at tangoandmore.org or you can email him
at pampacortes at hotmail.com
He asks me to tell you how much he appreciates the efforts
on his behalf to help with his medical costs. He has
insurance via Medicare but there are still expenses
associated with his treatment. Now he is able to pay
whatever the insurance doesn't, and receive support
services such as acupuncture, nutritional guidance,
and others that augment chemo and better his chances
for success.
We are grateful for the support of the Argentine
Association of Los Angeles who held their benefit
in September organized by Daniel Araujo, Tito, and
Ricardo. Thank you, too, to the artists that performed
that night.
We want to thank Juan Carlos & Alicia Suarez of Austin,
TX, Arturo & Ester Rappi of Houston, Alex & Sue Mamontoff,
Daniela Arcuri, and the community of tangueros who attended
a benefit in Houstin in September.
Closer to home, Pampa thanks Natashia Ng for the benefit
night she hosted at her weekly Studio Gracia Milonga in
San Francisco. The Circulo Argentino de San Jose hosted
a benefit at the beginning of October. We thank them
for their hard work and send a special thank you to the
artists who performed that night: Gato & Andrea, Nora &
Ed, and Marcelo & Olga.
Pampa has a long way to go. Unfortunately, his prostate
cancer became aggressive and spread to other organs.
That has been somewhat alleviated thanks to the radiation
and hormonal treatments. His liver is the most difficult
part of his situation.
(Translation: A thousand thank yous for helping me during
this difficult phase in my life. I thank you with all my
soul. I want to continue living this beautiful life and
sharing it with my family and friends. Thanks to everyone,
I feel strong and with all my strength, I will make it.)
Cordially,
Gigi Jensen

This class is designed for the beginner and
pre-intermediate level. No previous experience is
required. We begin each class with a warm-up, walking, and
technique exercises to prepare the mind and body to dance
tango. These exercises lay the foundation for good tango
technique. They improve balance, posture, flexibility,
and body movement. We then continue the lesson with a
general topic. These include navigation for the milonga,
communication with our partners, simple musicality. We use
the basic combinations -- basic salida (salida basico), the
box step (baldosa), walking (caminada), ochos, and simple
turns (cambio de frente and giros). The combinations are
not taught as steps to be copied. Instead, we teach how
to dance organically, from the lead all the way through
the resolution. During every class we also talk about
how to approach social tango dancing. We talk about the
milongas, the etiquette, how to invite a partner to dance,
and the tricks for smooth navigation. This class progresses
during the semester. However, drop-ins are always welcome.

Thursday
Intermediate class with Mauro & Elizabeth
8pm-9:15pm
Jerabeck 2nd floor Dance Room, 4000 Mt. Vernon, Houston,
TX 77006 Parking for Jerabeck available in the garage ($2)
or on Graustark St. Jerabeck is located on Graustark St
between West Alabama and Richmond Map
Fees: All Thursday Group classes are $12 per class when you
prepay for the month. Discount only available during first
and second weeks of the month. A single class drop-in rate
of $15 per class. Discount of 50% for university faculty,
staff, and students, all universities included.
This class is designed for the intermediate level. Students
should be familiar with the basics of walking, posture,
navigation, and technique. Knowledge of ochos, turns,
and weight changes are important at this level. Each class
begins with a warm-up, walking, and technique exercises to
prepare the mind and body to dance tango. These exercises
are important. As intermediates, we spend more time
focusing on body mechanics and kinesiology in order to
dance organically. We ask the body and mind to do more and
the response can be very exciting and creative! We then
continue the lesson with a general topic. These include
navigation for the milonga, different walking systems
with our partners, intermediate musicality (milonga and
vals). We use intermediate combinations- syncopated salida
(salida cruzada), cross and parallel walking, traspie,
turns with adornments, displacements (sacadas), and many
more. As always, the combinations are not taught as steps
to be copied. Instead, we teach how to dance organically,
from the lead all the way through the resolution. We
ask the students to think creatively, find solutions to
"mistake" (there are no absolute mistakes in tango,
only happy accidents), and to develop a style that is
unique. During every class we talk in depth about the
hows and whys of tango- the physiological, mechanical,
and psychological factors. This class progresses during
the semester. However, drop-ins are always welcome.
