Ballet Hispanico to Bring its Own "NightClub" to Houston

HOUSTON - Society for the Performing Arts (S.P.A.), bringing
the world's best to Houston, presents Ballet Hispanico and its
performance of "NightClub" on Friday and Saturday, February 3-4,
at 8 p.m. in Wortham Center's Cullen Theater.

"NightClub" is a theatrical, full evening-length piece that
showcases the passion of Latin dance and its origins. With
sultry tangos, classic Latin dance rhythms and contemporary
salsa/meringue beats, "NightClub" heats up the stage with music
by Astor Piazzolla and Tito Puente as well as by contemporary
artists such as dj St. Germain, Gotan Project, X Alfonso and Pink
Martini. "NightClub" contains adult themes and is not recommended
for children under the age of 14.

Conceived by Ballet Hispanico Artistic Director Tina Ramirez
and choreographed by Graciela Daniele, Luis Perez and Sergio
Trujillo, the evening begins in 1920s Argentina, and then moves
to the immigration waves of the 1950s and the social clubs of
Spanish Harlem. Finally, the performance ends with present day
Hispanic culture.

"'NightClub' provides a dramatic look into the array of passionate
Latin dance styles that continue to influence todays culture,"
said S.P.A Executive Director Georgiana Young.

Founded in 1970 by Tina Ramirez, Ballet Hispanico strives to
explore the Hispanic culture and educate others through dance. The
Company and its school emphasize the teachings of ballet, modern
and Spanish dance, and annually serves more than 25,000 students
and teachers nationwide.

Part of the I.W. Marks Dance Series, Ballet Hispanico’s
performance of “NightClub” is generously sponsored by Chase,
AIM Investments, The Humphreys Foundation and Continental
Airlines. This performance is also an ArtesAméricas program of
the University of Texas at Austin. The mission of ArtesAméricas
is to promote human understanding through presenting enriching
cultural entertainment and expanding our awareness of other
