This Saturday, St. Patrick's Day, is a very busy day for
milonga opportunities. I count at least four milongas in
easy driving distance:
Always Tango announces their next milonga has a
St. Patrick's Day theme on Saturday, March 17, at
Melody Club, 10pm-2am, $10/person. In addition,
Always Tango has launched their new online store,

Laurie Vega has organized Dance the Otherness in the
Wilderness, a day of socializing in Mother Neff state
park near Waco, followed by a milonga in the park and
then in Macgregor, Texas. Laurie has also organized a
workshop by Andres Sarasua, followed by a milonga, on
Sunday, March 18, in Carrollton, Texas, south of Dallas.

dedicated to new tango dancers at Cafe Tango Bar.

milonga at their location near Westheimer & Gessner:
Mauro Gonzalez writes: I would like to thank the Houston
tango community for their support to our opening milonga
last Sunday and invite everybody to our first Sunday

The big news for April is that Martin & Natia are hosting
Pampa and Valeria Cortes for the entire month! "This
Dynamic Duo will be teaching group classes at our studio,

with special guests. We are very excited to have this
opportunity for the Houston Tango Community." Houston will
have visiting tango instructors in residence for an entire
month, which I believe is a first for our community.

Tuesday
The Houston Argentine Tango Association continues their
class cycle this week, now with three classes each night.
Joan Bishop instructs at The Dance Place, 3300 Chimney Rock
@ Beverly Hill, Suite 500. This new space offers room
to grow with new students. Beginner 7-8pm, Intermediate

Wednesday
Jackie Arita, manager of Salento Cafe, sponsors a
weekly tango event. The dancing runs from 9 pm till
midnight. Salento Cafe is located at 2407 Rice Blvd in
the Rice Village area: Salento moves all the tables to the
walls and open up a nice floor of smooth tile. Tango music
dj'ed by Oscar. Salento offers a great selection of wines,
including Argentine Malbec as house wine. Empanadas and

Mercy & Mika teach independent classes on Wednesdays at
City Dance Studio:
Mikas teaches two tango fundamentals classes on Wednesdays
at the City Dance Studio in Rice village at 5416 Chaucer
Dr. (behind Ruggles). Fundamentals I from 7pm to 8pm and
Fundamentals II from 8pm to 9pm. Both classes are full
for the 6-week cycle that starts on February 21, 2007,
but if anyone is interested in attending the next cycle
(to start in April), contact Mikas at kalimika at gmail.com.
Mercy has finished one very satisfying cycle of
intermediate classes. She is changing the name to "*Helios
Tango Club*". I am playing around with names, and let's
see if this one sticks. Wednesdays 9pm - 10pm at City
Dance Studio intermediate classes starting February 21st.

Michael Figart teaches a beginner class in close embrace
Argentine Tango at the Spanish Institute of Dance every
Thursday evening at 7:00. Sometimes known as "apilado",
or "milonguero", tango, this is the style most often
danced in the traditional milongas in Buenos Aires. These
classes emphasize the technique, musicality, connection,
