Tango Houston holds its annual meeting this Thursday
(tonight). Ron Jones writes: Tango Houston will hold its
annual meeting on Thursday, May 24, 8pm at Te House of
Tea, 1927 Fairview St. This is a great opportunity for
anyone interested in contributing to tango in Houston.

workshop during month of May 2007. Maximiliano Avila

visiting Houston for a couple of weeks in May, and
we decided it would be a great opportunity to have
Maximiliano teach for the Houston tango community.
Maximiliano will host milongas with Martin for the weeks
that he is in town. Saturday 5-26-07, 1pm to 2:30pm -
Beginners tango; 3pm to 4:30pm - Intermediate tango;
5pm to 6:30pm - Advance tango. $25 per person per class,
cash only. Sunday 5-27-07 1pm to 2:30pm - Special Advance
Class Volcadas & Colgadas - weight over the partner and
weight outside of axis. $25 per person, cash only.

Ilya writes: Thanks to everyone for coming out last
month to our milonga. We had a great turnout and the
milonga was a blast! Please join us for this month's
Tango Oblivion this Saturday, May 26th. We have just
replenished our music library with more than a dozen of
latest CD's (both traditional and progressive) and are
looking forward to sharing the music with all our tango
dancers. Music requests are encouraged and fulfilled.

of tango workshops, milongas, practicas, and other fun.
She calls it Argentino Weekend 07, and it will be held June
8-11. The headliners are Dany "El Flaco" Garcia & Silvina

Club Dance classes for those attending the TropiTango
Fundraiser Dance on June 23rd, 2007. TropiTango is a
charity dance to be held on Saturday, June 23rd, 2007
at the Melody Club. Funds collected will help provide
computers and training to Houston's youth. The Workshops
are designed to help those in the Tango, Ballroom, and
Country Dance community, as well as those with little
or no Dance experience to learn the Basic Rhythm, Body
Mechanics and Elementary Steps of the most popular
Club Dances: Merengue, Bachata, Cumbia, Salsa, etc.
The Workshops will be held on Saturday, June 16th ,
10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at
Cafe Tango Bar & Studio on Mercer St. (for directions
please visit http://www.houston-tango.com). The classes
will be free to TropiTango ticket holders, but a voluntary
donation of a new, inexpensive computer item is suggested
(all donations are tax deductible). Those wishing to
attend may also purchase their TropiTango tickets that
day to take advantage of this incredible offer.
Mikas updated us about the Helios Milonga. Helios is
nearing completion on their renovations, and they want
tango back, but the day of the week is still up in the air.

The Houston Argentine Tango Association continues their
class cycle this week, now with three classes each night.

Jackie Arita, manager of Salento Cafe, sponsors a
weekly tango event. The dancing runs from 9 pm till
midnight. Salento Cafe is located at 2407 Rice Blvd in
the Rice Village area: Salento moves all the tables to the
walls and open up a nice floor of smooth tile. Tango music
dj'ed by Oscar. Salento offers a great selection of wines,

**Helios Tango Club Tango Instruction - Intermediate Level**
*Wednesdays, May 16th, 2007 - June 13th, 2007*
Every session of this class is new material and it can be taken
many times. The next cycle of classes will focus on building on
the tango fundamentals: improving the quality of each step and
the connection between the partners. We explore the structure
and technique of tango and keep memorizing patterns to a minimum.

close embrace social Argentine tango for beginners and
those wishing to refresh the basics. City Dance Studio
